The Red Sox – Breaking The Curse
Changing gears for a moment to talk about something weird that happened recently.
My friend was on his Dish TV or whatever he uses to watch his shows when he emailed and asked me about the Curse of the Bambino. At first I thought he was joking. Anyone who actually followed baseball at least knew about the Red Sox and the fabled curse of the Bambino. The Bambino was the nickname of Babe Ruth, the legendary baseball player who spent a good part of his career leading the Red Sox to greatness until he was summarily sold off to the New York Yankees. Thus, the curse began.
After that, it seemed absolutely impossible for the Red Sox to dig themselves out of this losing rut that they found themselves in. No matter what, they just could not make it into the World Series and whenever they came toe to toe with their rivals, the New York Yankees, well, you could bet on the Yankees and come out on top. Of course, all of this changed in 2004 when the Red Sox finally did win the series and they have enjoyed a marginally better history of baseball ever since. So the next time someone talks about “reversing the curse” or the “curse of the bambino” that is what they are talking about.
