The Philadelphia Phillies wrapped baseball’s National League East division up months ago. Often considered to be an American League team playing in the National League, the Phillies had the best record in baseball this year and won a franchise record 102 games. Despite an 8 game losing streak in September, the Phillies played stellar baseball all 162 games this season.
The Philadelphia Phillies currently hold a 1 game lead in the National League Division Series. They are playing the St. Louis Cardinals and should not have much trouble dispatching them in the best of five series. The Phillies are a formidable team and anything less than a World Series trophy would be considered a disappointing season for them. Their potent, veteran offense, and the trifecta of Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, and Roy Oswalt make them nearly invincible on all levels of baseball. Then again, in baseball anything can happen. A team that looks great on paper might not execute on the field. Just look what happened to the Boston Red Sox this year. The Philadelphia Phillies are different. Their starting pitching will ensure they bring home the October classic. The City of Brotherly love should start preparing for a parade.
